Hotel photography:

capturing the perfect shot

Creating stunning visuals for your hotel

Hotel exterior and architecture photography is the primary touchstone for the browsing client. It is crucial to show the hotel in an inviting way yet still retains the “wow” factor.

the magical feeling between night and day

Often, to help elevate the image and give a truly stunning impression, I will aim to shoot at dusk or dawn – depending on the aspect of the building. This creates the magical feeling between night and day, when we can see the building’s lights, yet also still see texture in the sky. There is a reason why many photographers refer to it as the “magic hour”.

These, and other techniques specific to architectural photography, help to make the image really stand out, inviting potential guests to click on your property to see more.

Hotel room photography: make your hotel rooms shine

Design and interior photography is where we delve into and show off the mood and feeling of the property. Through creating great images, we can highlight the intention of the designers. This is where we focus on the details and help the client begin to feel the ambience of place, offering a taste of their guest experience.

Rather than simply focusing on the guest rooms, by exhibiting amenities like the lobby, spa, pool, and dining spaces, the entire guest experience is represented.

offering a taste of their guest experience

This is where a cohesive shoot team is vital: as a photographer, I focus on the lighting, composition, and other technical details, while the stylist is just as crucial to the team, making sure the hotel is straightened and styled – dressed to its best – bringing life to the images.

Uncovering the secrets of hospitality lifestyle photography

Lifestyle images incorporate actors and models to show the browsing client what they can expect from their upcoming stay.

This is all about demonstrating the experience and emotion. It might be showing them lounging by the pool, on a catamaran ride around the islands, a day at a theme park, or simply the in-room dining experience. We take the best of what you have to offer and show it being enjoyed, with the ultimate image saying, “This, too, can be you.”

I usually recommend hired talent for these images, although we do work with the hotel staff on occasion. Using models and actors works to sell an exclusive vibe, and being professionals in front of a camera they are able to effectively portray a tone of relaxation. Stylists, hair & make-up artists further elevate the final image.

The role of photography in the hospitality industry

The service staff, often invisible to the guests, are the unsung heroes of the hospitality industry. Their smooth and professional efforts make all the difference in an exceptional experience.

the difference between an ordinary stay and an extraordinary one

Housekeeping places the final touches on a room to welcome a guest; a chef makes sure the plate looks its best before being dispatched and the maître d’ welcomes the guests. These are all small moments, detailed and focused, which make the difference between an ordinary stay and an extraordinary one, and illustrating them in an unobtrusive and intimate way is a skill that translates to potential guests.
